The project is located in Binjiang Junyuan area, Zhangguanying Road, Panlong District, Kunming City, Yunnan Province. Binjiang Junyuan is a former Zhang Guangying village and Zhang Guangying used goods market, one of the largest urban villages within the second ring of Kunming, which has now become a large planned urban residential area mainly for living after urban village transformation. Surrounded by not only several large urban complexes, but also several primary and secondary schools and office business districts, there is a huge young consumer population, enough to meet the consumption level of a brand new experience cafe to be created.

The project is located on the ground floor of the condominium, which was previously a beauty salon, and is not an ideal location for an urban cafe, but the owner is confident that a good design and online marketing will create enough foot traffic.

Because the owner decided that the name of the cafe was "Deep Sea", the designer put a lot of thought into what "Deep Sea" was. Unlike conventional thinking and searching for reference images when doing normal design, often such designs are spaces with blue color, but the name "Deep Sea" brings the concept of thinking, why is the deep sea blue? When you search through this way of thinking, you will find that the reason why the sea is blue is because the sky is blue (not to mention the principle) and the body of water (space) is transparent, so the blue color of the deep sea is created by light and material itself rather than by "design". With this logic, the design of the whole space is clear: the original ceiling is removed and the blue "sky" is made of paint; the space below is made of reflective/transparent materials - mirror, metal, acrylic, plastic, etc. Through this Through this ambiguous euphemism, rather than a simple and brutal way, the blue of the deep sea fills the whole space.

In the design of the main dining area on the first and second floors, we use the blue top to set the basic color of the space, while the rest of the space is chosen: opaque - mirror reflection - metal material reflection - translucent material - material diffuse reflection - open window to draw light - transparent furniture together to create the effect of wave light sea. Therefore, in the creation of spatial effects, the choice of materials and practices for these parts became the core technical elements of the design.
The core technical element of this design.

For the opaque materials, the most common latex paint was used for the white walls, and white epoxy resin with a slightly reflective effect was used for the floor.
The reflective surface material, brushed aluminum, was used for the sealing of the material joints, skirting, bar and other special attributes.
As for translucent materials, the design was prepared to use glass film on the exterior window glass and translucent sunlight panels on the staircase space to highlight the transparent but private effect of some spaces.

As for the mirror material, the large area of glass mirror increases the sense of extension and openness of the space, while the installation of the mirror is fixed to the wall through multi-layer panels, and the outer frame of the mirror is concealed with LED light strips through multi-layer panels with hidden slots to create the effect of the mirror suspended in the air. The design includes ordinary gray mirrors and blue mirrors in the staircase space to emphasize the reflection effect. The large mirrors in the staircase space with light sources in different places and different levels of diffuse reflection on the blue top create a dream effect.

In addition, a lot of transparent furniture is used in the interior, mainly acrylic, inflatable plastic and glass, which makes the interior unified to express the shimmering and transparent feeling of the deep sea.

An innovative cafe is not bound by the traditional definition of a cafe, that is, this space can accommodate the leisure needs of different contemporary urban people: that is, this cafe is a small social space integrating dining, exhibition, movie watching, gathering and communication, in addition to the traditional functional positioning. Here, a lot of thought and unexpected things can happen, and the use of space has a lot of flexibility and uncertainty, so we do not give a clear definition on the properties of space, and we also hope that through the creation of this innovative space, we can provide a vibrant stronghold for young people in the city nowadays.
